The dice were loaded against the film anyway, as I have always never held much regard for Anime a genre that brings images of badly dubbed English audio, fights that last for episodes at a time (yes, Dragonball Z), and a fandom that can almost seem blind to the criticism that you, an outsider, may level against their idols. As such, Princess Mononoke didn’t get much of a platform to make an impression on me. With roughly 8 people clustered around the screen, talking amongst themselves, the feeble inbuilt speakers didn’t have much chance of being heard. I first came across the film on a small TV when living in student halls. For me, Princess Mononoke was one of them. Some films don’t get a fair chance from their viewers.
